Our School
Spirit Week
During the week of April 8th - 12th, the students at BHHS participated in our 2nd annual Anti-bullying week. This week aims to raise awareness of bullying in schools and elsewhere, and to highlight ways of preventing and responding to it. At the end of the week, the students take part in an afternoon of activities that encourage teamwork. The Anti-Bullying Week is organised by Mrs. Bristol and the BHHS Student Council. Some of the highlights of the week are included below.
Each day we had a dress day theme. The juniors made a clean sweep the first three days and won the pizza party for having the most participants.
During our normal study skills hour the students were shown the movie "The Bully Project" and were encouraged to take the pledge to stand up for others.
Teamwork day concluded our week with a total of 44 teams of 4 people consisting of one freshmen, sophomore, junior, and senior. Each team participated in 10 teamwork stations and were able to have popcorn, ice cream and participate in a schoolwide game of kick ball.
Stations:
- The Party
- Students wrote good qualities about themselves on a piece of paper, put them in a balloon, and popped it
- Human Knot
- Balloon Warfare
- Teams sat down on opposite sides and kept the balloon from touching the ground
- Cheeto Toss
- One student got whipped cream sprayed on their face, and other teammates threw Cheetos at their face to try and make them stick.
- Multi-Way Tug-of-War
- 4 teams each pulled the rope their way until one team, if any, won.
- Blanket Volleyball
- Volleyball was played by tossing and catching a volleyball with a blanket.
- Sneak a Peek
- Teams got one look at a stack of building blocks, and raced the other team to duplicate the stack.
- Bodyguard
- One student was the victim and the rest were the bullies. One student guarded the victim as the others tossed around a ball trying to hit the victim.
- Obstacle Course
Each station was designed to teach students important lessons such as the importance of team work, self esteem, and the fight to stop bullying. Incentives were given for various amounts of stations accomplished: popcorn for 3, ice cream for 5, and a chance to play a kickball game for 5.
