Superintendent's Message
August, 2008
Friends, Family Members,
Community Members, and Colleagues,
Summer is a favorite season
for many people – and most children! The dog days of summer have given many a
person some of the most fun-loving yet precious memories one can have. It is no
secret that summer’s long days, lazy weekends and glorious weather make for some
truly wonderful times.
Now, however, we turn our
thoughts to the next school year. The buildings are ready – cleaned and shining
for students and staff alike. The calendar is prepared and full of activities.
The faculty is ready for another year filled with many successes for each
student.
The school year facing us
also has its challenges. All of us are struggling with increased costs of fuel,
supplies and services. In addition, this School District is facing spiraling
utility and repair costs for our aging buildings. Couple this with declining
enrollments and the unsureness of state support and you have a snapshot of some
of the concerns that this District faces during the coming months. They are
daunting, but not insurmountable.
We are extremely proud of
our District. Our teachers and staff are very dedicated to our students’
success and our Board works hard to be fiscally responsible. Our tests scores
are admirable. Our curricular upgrades and revitalization are the source of
inspiration for other districts. In short, Bunker Hill School District is a
district with which you can be proud.
Welcome back to another
school year with us. Make plans to attend ball games, matches, music activities
and other events. Become involved in your School District. Participate by
attending events, enjoy the sense of camaraderie that comes with being there.
Become acquainted with the students and staff who foster that sense of community
pride. Join us for a terrific year.
